About me

I have always been interested in the area of human behavior and mental health. Years ago, I decided to turn my focus toward mental health, when I later earned a graduate degree in mental health counseling, and I also attained licensure for the state of Georgia as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). Since that time, I have had many wonderful opportunities throughout my career in my community to learn, share, and grow in this field.

I am now currently the owner and CEO of Compassion Therapeutic Counseling Services, LLC; where I provide Individual Psychotherapy, Couples Therapy, Family TherapyGroup Therapy, and other additional resources and support.

My Approach

Although I rely on many different therapeutic approaches, I lean more toward Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) in my approach to treatment. It is my goal to help those who are struggling mentally and emotionally understand how they may develop abnormal or maladaptive behaviors in their battle toward emotional health and well-being. I also believe that it is essential to help those who are struggling with troubling behaviors, see that their negative thought patterns can oftentimes dictate their feelings and behaviors. It is my goal, through treatment, to help those who are declining in their mental health by decreasing or eliminating their negative thought patterns and behaviors.

I will work with clients to help them identify unhealthy thought patterns, and negative behaviors/belief systems. I will encourage and educate clients on how to implement healthier copies strategies that will promote positive thinking, affirmations, and overall positive behavior changes.

1.

Individual
Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy, or talk therapy, is a way to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Problems helped by psychotherapy include difficulties in coping with daily life; the impact of trauma, medical illness, or loss, like the death of a loved one; and specific mental disorders, like depression or anxiety.

There are several different types of psychotherapy and some types may work better with certain problems or issues, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), interpersonal therapy (IPT), psychodynamic therapy, and supportive therapy.

Psychotherapy may be used in combination with medication or other therapies.

2.

Couples
Therapy

This type of therapy helps spouses and partners understand why their loved one has a mental health disorder, what changes in communication and behaviors can help, and what they can do to cope. This type of therapy can also be used to help a couple that is struggling with aspects of their relationship.

A therapist can help you express your feelings, discuss issues with your partner, and resolve conflicts. Couples therapy can help increase understanding, respect, affection, and intimacy between you and your partner, which can help you be happier together.

3.

Family
Therapy

Family therapy is a form of psychotherapy that seeks to reduce distress and conflict by improving the systems of interactions between family members. While family therapists often seek to have all family members (affected by the problem) in the room, that is not always possible or necessary. What distinguishes family therapy from individual counseling is its perspective or framework, not how many people are present at the therapy session.

This type of counseling views problems as patterns or systems that need adjusting, as opposed to viewing problems as residing in the person, which is why family therapy is often referred to as a “strengths-based treatment.”

4.

Group
Therapy

Group Therapy is an effective form of therapy in which a small number of people meet under the
guidance of a professionally trained therapist to help themselves and one another. There are many different approaches to group therapy, but they share creating a safe, supportive, and cohesive space to address personal, relationship and societal issues.

Group therapy provides a place where you come together with others to share problems or concerns, to better understand your own situation, and learn from and with each other. Under the leadership of a therapist, you will learn about yourself and improve your relationships with other people.
